It’s March, and winter seems like it’s here to stay. We can’t let it win though, guys; that’s just what it wants.
Besides, better things than winter are happening here at Royal Mountain. Hollerado has just finished building themselves a recording studio and are now hard at work on their next record. In addition to the recent Juno nom, they have also found themselves on the Prism Prize shortlist thanks to Marc Ricciardelli’s video for ‘So It Goes’. They are also starting to announce some summer festival shows including TURF festival in Toronto, and Squamish in British Columbia.
Speaking of new show dates, PUP has been to Europe and back, and are now tackling the states and the west coast with Solids. SXSW is next week and PUP has four, yes four, shows happening during the festival….3 of which are on one day. Here’s hoping they come back alive, we kind of like them.
Alvvays has a couple of shows lined up this week; Friday they’re in Ottawa with Etiquette and Stella Ella Ola, and Saturday they come home to strut their stuff at The Silver Dollar.
Summer is coming, it will be here to save us soon, so hang in there.
so 2014 continues and february comes around just as it usually does.
PUP has made their way overseas to kick off their European/UK tour, but not before blowing the roof off The Phoenix AND THEN The Garrison in Toronto last Friday. Europe and the UK won’t know what hit them. We hope our boys come back in one piece, and we even asked them to send us proof that they were still alive and all we got was this pic of a demonic looking black cat. Alright, good luck out there, PUP.
Here at Royal Mountain Records pride ourselves in doing things ourselves, and encouraging the bands we work with to do the same thing. Earlier this week Juno Nominations were released and we’re pleased to announce that Hollerado’s latest album, White Paint, was nominated for Recording Package of the Year. The band and their amazing friends stayed up for 3 days straight, hand painting over 10,ooo copies of White Paint at an Andy Warhol style warehouse painting-party. The base image under the paint is of a stained glass window designed by Menno’s grandfather in the 1960s. So this nomination should really for be for Opa Charlie and the couple hundred friends that pitched in to make art with us. It’s nice to be nominated for whatever, but at the end of the day, what we are truly grateful for is being part of an amazing, talented and encouraging community that supports each other in creating things and experiences that we can all be proud of. And for that we thank you.
In case you missed it, here is a video of what happened that weekend, courtesy of our friends at Last Frame Pictures.
So far 2014 has been a busy and exciting year for us. We recently signed two great bands from Toronto. Alvvays: welcome to the family. Look for their records to be out in the early spring.
We also have this brand new website. That is as good of a reason as any to celebrate, so we are hosting a FREE show at the Horseshow Tavern on Wednesday, January 29. Get there by 9pm to see Stella Ella Olla kick things off, followed by a comedy set from Dave Foley and some special surprise musical guests and Hollerado will play too.
And finally thanks to John Smith for making this new website. John plays in one of favorite bands, Young Rival, from Hamilton. They just put out this cool new video that you should check out.
Royal Mountain is excited to announce that we have just signed PUP. Their debut full-length produced by Dave Schiffman (Weezer, The Bronx) is due out this fall.
We couldn’t be happier, and to top things off, Stereogum has just featured them as a band to watch. Check it out.
Stay tuned for more info about touring and the album release date.
